HOW DO PET BIRDS COMMUNICATE – Birds communicate with each other through body language and voice, but also with their owners. If we observe the position of the tail, eyes, beak and wings, we can find out what the bird wants to tell us.

    EYES

It is a known fact that birds, unlike humans, have the ability to control the dilation and narrowing of the pupil of the eye. In case the eye flickers with the rapid expansion of the pupils at the same time, it means that the bird is very excited and interested in what is in front of it, but it can also mean that the bird is angry. The movement of the eye always needs to be observed through the environment, and also in combination with the observation of the position of the rest of the body, which will tell us a lot.

    VOCAL SIGNS

Singing, speaking and whistling – this tells us that the bird is healthy, happy and relaxed. Some species of parrots love to have an audience in front of which they will enjoy singing. There are, of course, more shy breeds of parrots that enjoy silence, so don’t let your worries worry that your pet may not be singing.

Muttering – a vague murmur is usually a sign of pleasure, and if it is very loud, it usually happens while teaching the bird to say new meaningful words. Also, sometimes the birds murmur in order to attract the attention of the owner.

Spinning – spinning birds is more reminiscent of quiet growling. It is usually a sign of satisfaction, but it can also be a sign of anxiety.

Tongue clicking – Tongue clicking is a sign that the bird has a desire to play and have fun. Also, it means that your bird invites you to play together, so it is desirable to release the bird from the cage.

Roar – loud roar shows aggressive vocalization. If your bird roars in panic and loud, look at what bothers him or what he is afraid of in his environment. It can be an object, but also an unknown person near your bird. It is advisable to remove everything that you think bothers the bird.

    FEATHER POSITION

Ruffled feathers – the bird always ruffles its feathers during cleaning, thus making it easier to remove dirt and dust. Also, the bird will ruffle its feathers if it is cold in order to keep as much heat as possible.

Crest position – some species of parrots have a rich crest on their head. A story that is relaxed and satisfied with the cross always keeps it down. A bird that shows excitement due to the arrival of the owner or a new toy, for example, will raise its crest. However, if the crest is raised very high and accompanied by roaring and hissing, this is an indicator of aggressive behavior and potential attack.

    TAIL POSITION

Waving the tail – like dogs, birds wave their tails when they are happy to see their owner. Birds also wag their tails just before urinating, which can make it easier for you to train a bird that is outside the cage in the apartment.

Spread tail – tail spread is most often a sign of domination and aggression. This behavior can be noticed at the time of mating, when two males measure their strength and when there is a fight for the affection of potential partners.

    LEG POSITION

And bird legs can tell us a lot about birds. Tapping your feet on the cage is a sign of domination over the territory. When the bird is satisfied with its environment, it can be seen hanging upside down inside its cage. Also, if your bird refuses to lean on its legs while you return it to the cage, it usually means that they have a desire to spend more time with you. This phenomenon is called “weak legs“.

    BEAK AND HEAD

If the bird rubs the upper part of the beak against the lower one with sliding movements, it can be interpreted as a sign of pleasure. If a bird clicks with one beak when it sees you, it is a sign of greeting, but in case the clicking continues, it is a sign of warning and nervousness. If you see a bird rubbing its beak against a cage, it means that it is marking the territory. Birds that are interested in something or looking for attention wave their heads up and down.

    BODY POSITION

The movements of the bird should always be observed in the context of the situation in which the bird finds itself. If the body is relaxed and the head is still, it can be interpreted as a sign of happiness and satisfaction. In case the bird is standing still, but with visibly fringed feathers, it means that the bird says that it is its territory.

When a bird stands in a squat and waves its head up and down, or squats with its head down it is a sure sign that it is seeking your attention as well as that it is ready to be petted.

When a bird spreads its wings and screams it means it is preparing to attack. Then it is recommended that you let your bird calm down and cool down because otherwise she will not hesitate to bite you.

We hope we have at least helped a little and made it easier for you to interpret the behavior of your feathered pet.
