SERBIAN DEFENSE DOG (SOP) – The Serbian Defense Dog (SOP) is a modern working dog breed developed in Serbia in the 1980s to revive the old native breed known as the Serbian Mastiff. The breed’s creator, Nenad Gavrilović, combined wolves, Tornjaks, Rottweilers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, and American Staffordshire Terriers to produce a dog with a stable temperament, strength, and protective instincts.
This carefully selected combination resulted in the SOP having approximately 5% wolf genetics, 30% each from Tornjak, Rottweiler, and Neapolitan Mastiff genes, and 5% from American Staffordshire Terrier. Although the breed is not yet recognized by the FCI, it is highly regarded among working dog enthusiasts in the Balkans.
