MOST EXPENSIVE CAT BREEDS – Some cat breeds can reach staggering prices—some of them can cost as much as an apartment or a car. The most common reasons for their high price are their distinctive appearance, rarity, popularity, or low fertility rates.
Here are five cat breeds considered among the most expensive pets in the world:
Ashera – An extremely rare breed surrounded by controversy regarding its origin. According to some sources, it was developed from Asian leopard cats. It can reach a height of up to 1.5 meters and weigh between 12 and 15 kg, making it one of the largest cats in the world. It is considered very rare—since 2006, only about 100 have been sold. Its price typically starts at around £12,000, but due to its rarity, it can reach up to €100,000.
Savannah – Considered the second most expensive cat in the world, it also holds the title of the tallest domestic cat in the Guinness World Records. In some parts of the world, owning or breeding this cat is restricted. It is rare partly because males have low fertility rates. Prices range from €6,000 to €30,000. Interestingly, singer Justin Bieber owns a cat of this breed.
Bengal cat – One of the most popular cat breeds worldwide. Due to its distinctive markings, it resembles a leopard—just much smaller. Prices range from €8,000 to €21,000. Ownership is restricted in certain places, such as New York City, Seattle, and Hawaii.
Sphynx – Known for its striking appearance and lack of fur. It is considered an exotic breed because it is difficult to find and is also one of the rarer purebred cats. This breed tends to eat more than others and requires additional care during colder months. Prices range from €4,000 to €8,000.
Persian cat – One of the oldest cat breeds in the world. It became especially popular in the early 20th century and is still commonly seen at cat shows worldwide. They are known for their calm, tolerant nature and love of sleeping—often up to 20 hours a day. Their price typically ranges from €3,000 to €4,000.
