ORIGIN
The Scottish Greyhound is a very old breed whose origin is very little known. According to some records, this hunting dog existed in Scotland even before the Scots themselves immigrated in the ninth century. In Scotland it was used for deer hunting. This dog usually hunts in pairs, he is very fast like other greyhounds, but he uses his excellent sense of smell more when hunting. The breed arrived in Europe in 1863, and in the USA it is still used today for hunting deer and coyotes. He is capable of reaching speeds of 50 km / h.
APPEARANCE
The greyhound is a large dog, with a very strong body and strong bones. He has very sharp and long hair, which is softer on the head and abdomen than on the rest of the body. They can appear in the following colors: dark or light gray, sand color, tiger or yellow, reddish brown with a black mask. They have a typical greyhound build, with a strong, elegant, but also so-called skinny look. The minimum height of males is 76 cm, and females 71 cm. The average weight is 48 kg.
CHARACTER
The greyhound is above all an excellent and fast hunter, with a perfect sense of smell. He is extremely loyal, and very attached to his owner and the human family. When he is not hunting, he is calm, he very rarely barks. He is considered obedient and easy to train. He is friendly towards people and children, but it is necessary to get him used to other animals from an early age because of his pronounced hunting instinct.
HEALTH AND CARE
It is not recommended to keep this dog in the apartment, because he requires a lot of activities and a lot of space. It is necessary to provide him with regular physical activities, at least an hour of running a day. His hair is not demanding for care, weekly brushing and periodic hair shortening are enough. Like other greyhounds, he eats very little and it is not surprising that his ribs are outlined. Poorly tolerates high heat. The following health problems can occur: bone cancer, heart problems, and stomach torsion.
