Dalmatian became one of the most famous types of breeds in the world thanks to the widely popular Walt Disney film 101 Dalmatians. They have a specific look, a cheerful and an endearing character. Dalmatians have friendly temperament and an elegant look, they are considered great pets, but also companions for visually impaired people.
ORIGIN
Dalmatian is a breed whose origins are not much known. Also, the time of their origin is not known, but it is assumed that they originated by paring the Great Dane with some other races. It is also assumed that they originated in the territory of Dalmatia, after which they are named. They first gained popularity in England, where they played a role in pulling carriages during the 17th century. They were very noticeable because of their specific appearance as they walked or ran in front of the horses, which of course were actually pulling carriages. Later, they gained enormous popularity thanks to Walt Disney, and something less known Dodi Smith’s 1959 film, which is also called 101 Dalmatians.

APPEARANCE
The Dalmatian is medium-sized, recognisable by his white coat with specific black spots. His coat is short, sharp and thick. Their head is medium in size, always with a black nose. The back is straight and muscular, and their tail is very long. Their famous polka dots can be brown, but always round and distributed all over the body. When they are born, dalmatians are completely white, the spots are formed later during development.
CHARACTER
They are very intelligent and energetic dogs. They are a loyal breed, peaceful in nature, and get along well with children and other animals. Also, Dalmatians are “made for” speed and as such they are a great partner for long walks and running.
HEALTH AND CARE
Dalmatian coat is short and smooth, but they need regular brushing. They shed several times during the year, which can be a problem for their owner due to the white colour of their hair. Besides that, their care is not demanding, they require a healthy and varied diet, as well as a large amount of physical activity.
They are generally a healthy breed, but are prone to urinary tract infections as well as hearing problems. It is necessary to provide them with a varied diet, as well as a large amount of water in order to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections. They are also prone to weight gain, if they do not have a sufficient amount of daily physical activities.
