Nebelung is a newer breed of cats, formed in the mid-1980s in the United States. The first specimens of this breed are two kittens, Siegfried and Bruhild, named after the old epic The Song of Nibelunzi. The name Nibelung itself comes from the German word “nebel”, which means haze or fog. For this breed today, the same standards apply to the Russian blue cat, except of course the length of the hair that is much longer and more pronounced in Nebelung kittens.
