Nebelung is the cat of sumptuous grey fur and emerald eyes, looking very much like his “cousin” Russian blue. She’s also referred to as the “creature of fog” because of her shimmering fur that seemingly floats around this beautiful kitten. A long-lasting, very intelligent breed that never shows destructive behavior. Always eager for attention and games, it goes well with children and can be kept in the apartment without problems.
ORIGIN
Nebelung is a newer breed of cats, formed in the mid-1980s in the United States. The first specimens of this breed are two kittens, Siegfried and Bruhild, named after the old epic The Song of Nibelunzi. The name Nibelung itself comes from the German word “nebel”, which means haze or fog. For this breed today, the same standards apply to the Russian blue cat, except of course the length of the hair that is much longer and more pronounced in Nebelung kittens.
APPERANCE
Very elegant looks, primarily because of their beautiful blue (grey) fur which is their main feature. The fur is very thick and two-tiered with the tops dragging on to the silver. Their tails are very pronounced and airy, they wear it upright as they walk. Their eyes are extremely green, this breed has an almost mesmerize look. In newborn kittens of this breed, the color of the eyes is not as expressive, it takes about 2 years to fully develop. Their body’s been long, they’re middle-sized cats, long necks and legs. Because of their pronounced thick fur and elegant posture they leave the impression of a proud and graceful kitten.
CHARACTER
They’re big cuddles, extremely gentle. Most often they are attached to only one person whom they will love unconditionally and show their attention. They have patience with children and are active even at a young age. They love to follow their owner around and almost continuously play with different toys. They love it so much that they’re surrounded by their own human family, that this breed of kittens sometimes say they act almost like a dog. It is not advisable to leave them alone for longer periods, otherwise they may become withdrawn and depressed. Constantly seeking attention and cuddling from their human companion, and for this reason this breed is not advisable for people who do not have enough time to devote enough attention and love to this breed.
HEALTH AND CARE
There is no information on hereditary diseases or health problems, so this is generally a very healthy breed that can live a long time. They have a huge appetite when it comes to food, so it’s not a good idea to leave them a bowl of food always full so they don’t become obese. Their beautiful long hair requires brushing twice a week.
