World scientists were stunned after the case of the longest migration of a land bird. As it was noted, one common cuckoo covered over 7,450 miles.
Scientists attached satellite tracking tags to five birds in Mongolia last summer. One tag was attached to a bird named Onon. This coward left its winter habitat in Zambia, in southern Africa, on March 20. Onon flew thousands of miles over the Indian Ocean without stopping. The average speed was 60 kilometres per hour and it flew over a total of 16 countries to eventually reach Mongolia.
Another bird they followed spent the winter near Kilimanjaro in East Africa. It flew 6,210 miles in two weeks and reached Yunnan in China. Data is lost there, so it is assumed that she either died of exhaustion or was killed by predators.
