One of the first associations with cat food is a bowl full of milk and many of owner’s cats still drink milk every day. However, veterinarians warn that this is not a good diet, and here is why.
Adult cats are generally completely lactose intolerant. This means that the digestion of dairy products, ie lactose sugar, is completely impossible for them. As a result, cats may have stomach problems and diarrhea. Prolonged retention of this sugar in the cat’s intestines can also cause bloating.
However, not everything is so black and white. Most adult mammals have at least some form of lactose tolerance, and cats are no exception. As with humans, there are cats that will be able to digest dairy products more easily, while others will have health problems.
Even if your kitten tolerates milk well, veterinarians agree that it should not drink it every day, but that the milk should sometimes serve as a caloric dinner. At the end, as for us, the best “drink” for the body and hydration is plain clean and fresh water.
