Many owners first think of giving a bunch of treats to a pet when they want to show them love, but that is not exactly the healthiest solution. As more and more pets struggle with obesity, we have singled out for you a few ways you can show your pet love in a different way.
- Learn their language – All pets, whether they are dogs, cats, rabbits or guinea pigs, have their own way of communicating with each other. When you want to “declare love” to your pet, it is best to get to know his behaviour well and learn what is your desirable behaviour towards him and what is not. For example, many dogs do not like to be hugged, and according to the American Kennel Club, many dogs interpret this as a sign of dominance and may find it intimidating, while in humans, hugging is a way to show affection and love.
- Pamper them – Almost all pets, regardless of their type, love to be petted and scratched. What is necessary is to learn which parts of the body your pet likes the most and to tickle him in those “zones”. For example, rabbits enjoy cuddling on their cheeks and head, but generally react badly if someone touches their legs and stomach.
- Play with them – Playing with your pet is another great way to show them your love. Try to spend as much time as possible with them in play and fun, and that will make them feel loved and intellectually stimulated, which is more than necessary for every healthy pet. If you have a smaller pet, which you can’t play with in the true sense of the word, you can get him a new toy with which he will have fun and enjoy the game.
- Take care of your pet – Cats and dogs like to be cared for, because during the care they get extra attention from their owner. By regularly brushing and maintaining your pet’s hygiene, you will additionally connect with him, but your pet will also feel like someone you love and take care of.
- Take care of their health – Keeping your pet strong and healthy is one of the best ways to show him how much you love him, for that reason never skip regular check-ups and visits to the vet.
