DOGS AND FRUIT – First of all, you should always keep in mind that giving fruit to your pet should not be overdone. Fruits and other sweets should not exceed 10% of your dog’s diet. Many fruits retain the natural sweetener xylitol, which is safe, but only if consumed in moderation.

Fruit you can give to the dog

Strawberries – Strawberries help strengthen the dog’s immunity, raise energy levels and ensure the proper functioning of the body due to the high content of vitamin C, manganese and potassium. They are considered the safest choice of fruit for your pet and most dogs love to eat them. Also, strawberries contain an enzyme that is believed to help whiten dogs teeth.

Blackberries – Blackberries contain low levels of sugar and calories, and are a good source of vitamin K.

Blueberries – Blueberries are also a good choice because they contain fiber, antioxidants and a large amount of vitamins C and K.

Raspberries – Raspberries contain a lot of fiber, but they are very sweet, so you should not overdo with giving them to your pet.

Apples – Apples are good for your dog’s bones, skin, teeth, intestines and immunity because they contain vitamins A and C, as well as calcium, phosphorus and fiber. What is extremely important is to clean the apple well as well as remove the seeds from it before giving it to your dog. The seeds contain cyanide, which is not good for your pet.

Pears – Pears are also a healthy and safe choice of fruit because they contain a lot of copper, fiber and vitamins C and K. Before giving pears to the dog, it is also mandatory to remove the seeds.

Nectarines – They contain beta carotene, potassium, fiber and vitamin A. They are good for bones, teeth, skin and the dog’s digestive system.

Peaches and mango – If given in small amounts they are a safe fruit for your dog. You should avoid this canned fruit and of course remove the seeds from it before giving it to the dog.

Bananas – They contain a lot of vitamins, fiber and copper that are important for a dog’s healthy nails and teeth, as well as general immunity. Many dogs especially enjoy bananas if they are given frozen, but they also like fresh ones. It is necessary to pay attention to the quantity, because bananas are very high in calories.

Cranberries – Most dogs do not like the taste of cranberries because it is quite bitter, but this fruit is also healthy for your pet if consumed in moderation.

Melon – Melon is an extremely sweet fruit, so you can give it to your dog only in small quantities. It is very important that you do not give the dog the peel or the seeds of this fruit.

Oranges – are one of the rare citrus fruits that are considered safe for dogs.

Pineapple – Has a high level of sugar, so it can also be given only in small quantities. But it’s very important to keep in mind that you shouldn’t give the dog a canned pineapple, but only fresh one because the syrup in which the canned pineapple stands is not good for your pet.

Fruit that is not safe for dogs

Grapes or raisins – keep this fruit away from your dog because it is very poisonous to dogs, it can damage their kidneys, and also cause vomiting, fatigue and diarrhea. If your dog accidentally eats this fruit, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Cherries and plums – this fruit is also desirable to avoid because of the risky seeds that are extremely poisonous to dogs.

Avocado – contains a toxin which can be extremely poisonous to the dog as well as cause constipation or diarrhea and vomiting.

Citrus fruits – Grapefruit or a small amount of lemon juice is safe. However, a larger amount of this fruit will cause diarrhea in the dog. Also, it is rare for a dog to enjoy the sour taste of this fruit.
